Two Figures
Two figures, painted blue and white, in a series of encounters which suggest togetherness and loss. The paint both anonymises the figures and accentuates their physical presence. The bodies and the narrative arc are specific; the people are not. The blue figures perhaps invite comparisons to Yves Klein’s Anthropometries. But where Klein’s painted women were instruments – directed, exposed, incidental to the work – these figures are active participants. The paint reduces vulnerability rather than increasing it, the poses shaped by the participants not by the photographer.
